Health Improvement

The work of the Health and Social Care Team engages a range of health improvement themes. Local Government has a significant contribution to make to the improvement of health in Scotland – arguably more than any other institution – through its regulatory, community development, community planning and education role. Specific areas of work currently being taken forward by the Health and Social Care Team include:

  • Contributing to the development of partnership, policy, practice and law on Alcohol and Drugs
  • The effective regulation and control of Tobacco
  • The development of superior Health Protection in Scotland
  • Tackling Obesity through a range of practical and policy measures
  • Reducing Health Inequalities by supporting an assets based approach and other interventions
