Delivering public services for the digital age
SOCITM's Scottish Conference will take place on 18 September at Our Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh, locating it once again at the heart of decision-making for Scotland.
The three pillars of public expenditure, statutory obligations and discretionary powers which sit with local government make Scotland’s Councils uniquely powerful bodies. The breadth of competencies across almost every policy and service delivery area, taken together with the localised fit of the 32 councils to their communities and local circumstances give them a scope and flexibility unmatched by any other institution.
The day will comprise parallel plenary streams covering a range of contemporary issues facing those who govern our public bodies as they attempt to guide their organisations through the challenging and turbulent years that lie ahead. Topic areas will include:
Digital technologies and trends are evolving so fast that there is a real danger of attempting to solve problems that no longer exist, whilst failing to notice new challenges as they emerge. This conference will seek to explore the evolution of new technologies, their potential impact on Scotland’s children and young people, and the challenges they present to those entrusted with our children’s education, care and protection.
