COSLA RESPONSE TO MEDIA ENQUIRY ON CLADDING STANDARDS

A COSLA Spokesperson said: “Scottish local authorities and housing associations have been seeking to reassure our tenants following the Grenfell Tower tragedy.

“The cladding standards for high rise buildings in Scotland are higher than those in England – which is why tenants should feel less worried here, even if there’s and understandable increase in public interest in the design and safety of these buildings. Additionally, councils have completed enhanced fire safety checks which have been reassuring. Councils have also been working closely with the fire service and provided factual information to the Scottish Government on fire safety.

“We await with interest for the findings of the judge led Grenfell inquiry and any others that may follow. At this stage it is difficult to guess what the recommendations will be and how they would apply to the design of the individual buildings here.”
