COSLA RESPONSE TO REPORT ON CHILDHOOD OBESITY

A COSLA Spokesperson said: "Schools work with young people and families to ensure they are taking action to promote healthy diets and lifestyles through the food and drinks available in schools, and by incorporating aspects of food, nutrition and health in the curriculum at all stages.

"Recognising that the majority of food choices will be made outside of school hours, they endeavour to give children and young people the information and skills that encourage them to make healthier food choices outside of school.

"Beyond the School Gate, a joint Scottish Government and COSLA document developed in 2014, sets out a range of ways that local authorities, schools, caterers, retailers, and other partners can take action to positively influence the food environment in the local community."
