COSLA REPONSE TO MISSING CHILDREN IN EDUCATION

A COSLA Spokesperson said: “COSLA wishes to emphasise that we place the utmost importance on keeping children and young people safe. From our work with councils, we know that the highest incidences of this are found in cities where there are very mobile populations particularly where families come from a range of backgrounds.

"Scottish Local authorities take a number of steps to keep children safe, for example, Glasgow employs Slovakian home link workers who work with families and who have built contacts across Europe to try to track children who have returned to Europe.

"However, council services alone cannot solve this problem – real multi-agency approaches are required across the country and COSLA will continue to focus on emphasising the need to prioritise this with our partners.”
