COSLA supports 16 Days of Activism - Day 8

COSLA is working with Close the Gap in the development of an Employer Accreditation Programme to support the implementation of the Equally Safe Strategy.

The Employer Accreditation Programme, the first of its kind in the UK, will focus on areas core to addressing women’s inequality in the labour market, preventing violence against women in the workplace, and supporting survivors at work.

Equally Safe recognises that employers have a key role to play in supporting women experiencing the impacts and effects of gender-based violence and abuse, and in tackling perpetrators.

COSLA’s Community Wellbeing Spokesperson, Cllr Kelly Parry, says, “Women comprise 68% of the local government workforce in Scotland, and violence against women is an employment issue whether it occurs inside or outside of the workplace. This programme will enable our members to show leadership and through this work emphasise and raise awareness that preventing violence against women in ALL environments starts with advancing gender equality. There has been a high level of engagement from councils in this new development, and a pilot will run next year before being rolled out more widely.”
