COSLA comment on Scottish Crown Estate Bill

COSLA Spokesperson for Environment and Economy Councillor Steven Heddle said: "COSLA welcomes the passage of the Scottish Crown Estate Bill by the Scottish Parliament yesterday.

"The passage of this Bill marks a step towards devolution of the Crown Estate to Local Authorities which has been a long-held aspiration of Local Government and something which COSLA has long campaigned on.

"While this marks the end of the legislative process, much work remains to ensure that local management becomes a reality and that use of Crown Estate Assets are more responsive to local community needs.

"As such COSLA will continue to work with Scottish Government, Crown Estate Scotland, local authorities and other stakeholders to help ensure that the Crown Estate in Scotland enhances community empowerment through improved transparency and greater de-centralisation."
