Today marks the annual Marie Curie Day of Reflection, a day dedicated to remembering those close to us who have died. There is a particular emphasis this year on loss of loved ones experienced during the pandemic, during which time many people were sadly unable to properly grieve.

On behalf of all at COSLA I send thoughts to all those who experienced loss and pain during the pandemic, as many of our own Local Government workers and their families have, and I hope that it will provide some comfort that this national day of reflection will be recognised as one in which we can share our grief and loss.

I also take this opportunity to remind people dealing with grief and loss that you are not alone and there are a large number of services available both locally and nationally who can support with grief. Marie Curie’s own support line is one of these, and we will be adding a list of these services to the COSLA website.
