A COSLA Spokesperson said:
"Schools are unique places in that they are a place where children, young people, families, employees and wider community members come together regardless of background, experiences, beliefs, characteristics and personalities. This means they are well placed to equip young people and those around them with the knowledge, skills, understanding and empathy which helps create a more tolerant society. They are also places where they can learn how to spot disinformation, gain confidence and feel empowered to challenge discrimination and provide the tools and education for peace and democratic citizenship. COSLA is involved in a range of work at a national level, including antiracism, LGBT inclusive and gender equality in education. Local authorities work to empower their schools to provide an education that promotes peace and tolerance."
