COSLA Whole System Strategic Improvement Group meets to discuss improvements to Scotland's vital health social care systems.

The latest quarterly meeting of the Whole System Strategic Improvement Group (WSSIG) was held on Tuesday 29th April. The Group is co-chaired by COSLA’s Health and Social Care Spokesperson, Councillor Paul Kelly, alongside Minister for Social Care, Mental Wellbeing and Sport, Maree Todd.

The Group provides whole system leadership and direction on medium to longer term strategic improvements to Scotland’s health and social care systems. As a jointly-politically chaired group, the WSSIG is an important forum that brings together key partners in health and social care. The April meeting saw updates on the Operationalisation of the Scottish Learning and Improvement Framework for Adult Social Care Support and Community Health (SLIF) and on work by Healthcare Improvement Scotland (HIS) to support better outcomes around Discharge without Delay across several areas of Scotland.

Reflecting on this latest meeting and the Whole Sysyem Strategic Group's ongoing importance, Councillor Kelly said:

“In light of the various strands of reform and improvement underway across health and care, I see the Whole System Strategic Improvement Group continuing to play a key role in ensuring this work is both coordinated and has clear governance arrangements, while embedding social care alongside health to support integration by default.”
