A COSLA Spokesperson said: "No local authority takes the issue to charge for any service lightly. All local authorities very much value the role that music has in ensuring that children and young people get the most form their education.

"We have recently produced guidance for local authorities in partnership with the Scottish Government and Music Education Partnership Group to ensure a transparent approach.

"In addition, all authorities have polices in place to protect those on the lowest incomes from charging and there is no charging for pupils going forward for SQA exams."
