COSLA’s Community Wellbeing Board today (Friday) issued a rallying call for Scottish Local Government to back the ‘Stay in Scotland’ Campaign and to encourage EU Nationals to get registered for the forthcoming Euro Elections.

COSLA’s Community Wellbeing Spokesperson Councillor Kelly Parry said: "We need all our voices heard. That is why, today’s Board were very keen to have one final push in publicising the ’Stay in Scotland’ campaign and particularly in encouraging all EU Nationals to get registered for this month’s European Elections.

"COSLA recognises the importance of EU citizens being provided with accurate information and advice regarding the EU Settlement Scheme. We also recognise the importance of national and local political leaders articulating messages that migrants in general, and EU migrants in particular, are welcome and wanted in Scotland, particularly given the uncertainty and negativity that they may be facing as a result of Brexit.

"In addition, we will remind our Members, if they have not already done so, to promote and distribute the support materials within their councils and to relevant stakeholders."

Councillor Parry concluded: "We want EU Citizens to feel welcome, wanted and valued – because they are."
