Councillor Gail Macgregor is the COSLA Resources Spokesperson.
Gail was born in High Wycombe in 1971, spending her formative years in North London before moving to Dumfries in 1981. She was educated at St Joseph’s College and The University of Glasgow.
Gail spent most of her early career as a Senior Coach in the equestrian field in the UK and US, covering all disciplines, specialising in Riding for the Disabled and during her time as Manager of Rosebank Equestrian Centre she led a scheme to assist in the rehabilitation of young offenders. She laterally worked in Additional Support for Learning in secondary schools across Annandale.
In 2007 Gail was elected as Conservative Councillor for Annandale North, she was successfully re-elected in 2012 and 2017. During her time as a councillor she has held the positions of Vice-Convenor and Convenor of Education, Secretary to the Conservative Council Group, Secretary to the Council Administration Group.
Gail is currently Trustee of Lockerbie Trust, Lockerbie and Syracuse University Scholarship Trust and Dumfriesshire Educational Trust. She is also a member of Dumfries and Galloway Champions Board (LAC) and Dumfries and Galloway Childcare Partnership.
Gail is also a member of the Council’s Ad Hoc Bridge Educational Trust Sub Committee, Annandale and Eskdale Area Committee, Crichton Sub Committee, the Licensing Panel, Lockerbie & Lochmaben Common Good Fund Sub Committee and the Social Work Services Committee.
Outside of Council life Gail worked from 2015-2018 as a Researcher and Senior Caseworker for the Rt Hon David Mundell MP.
In June 2017 she was appointed COSLA Spokesperson for Resources with portfolio for Finance, Digital and Employers.
Gail lives and farms with her husband Andrew just outside Lockerbie, they have three grown up children, she enjoys nothing more than quality time at home with them all and their cocker spaniel Bailey.
