Commenting on the UK Government’s Budget announcement, COSLA Resources Spokesperson Councillor Kelly Parry said:

“Councils are central to local economies, tackling child poverty, and delivering key community services. For this reason, the elements of the UK Budget that signal further devolution of power are encouraging, however single-year budget settlements from UK Government and Scottish Government are still not allowing councils to achieve their full potential.

“As we look ahead to the Scottish Government’s Budget on 3rd December, it is vital that Ministers prioritise local government with a fair, flexible, and sustained funding settlement. Removing ring-fencing and single-year budget constraints will empower councils to invest in preventative services and deliver real, long-term change for our communities.”
