This week is Scottish Learning Disability Week 2026.

From 7-13 September 2026, this national campaign, coordinated by the Scottish Commission for People with Learning Disabilities, brings communities together to celebrate people with learning disabilities across Scotland.

This year’s theme “I am here…to be seen” serves as an important reminder that people with learning disabilities deserve to be seen, heard and included in all areas of life.

COSLA’s Health and Social Care Spokesperson, Cllr Paul Kelly commented:

“This Scottish Learning Disability Week, we welcome the opportunity to celebrate the achievements of people with learning disabilities, to hear people’s stories, and to reflect on the challenges they still face every day.

This week encourages us all to think about what more we can do to break down barriers, to challenge unfair attitudes and to ensure that people with learning disabilities have access to all the opportunities they require to thrive in our communities.

Local Government plays a vital role in upholding and promoting the human rights of people in our communities. The support and services that Councils across Scotland deliver have a huge impact on people’s daily lives, including through housing, education, local jobs, public transport, public leisure spaces, and social care services.”
